A sacrifice fly by Jim Holt in the ninth inning scored Rich Reese and gave the Twins a 2-1 victory over the Red Sox. Reese led off with a triple, forcing the Red Sox to issue intentional passes to Leo Cardenas and Jim Nettles to load the bases. Sonny Siebert then retired George Mitterwald on a short fly, but Holt batted for Jim Kaat and smashed a long fly to center field. [The Sporting News]
