The Cubs bunched five hits for three runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Expos, 5-2, behind the five-hit pitching of Milt Pappas. Don Kessinger singled, reached second on a wild pickoff throw by Steve Renko and crossed the plate on a single by Glenn Beckert to tie the score at 2-2.

Jim Hickman and Ron Santo hit singles to drive in Beckert with the go-ahead run. After an infield hit by Brock Davis, Johnny Callison added an extra tally with a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
