Juan Marichal, who had not been a winner since June 23, was knocked out in the seventh inning and suffered his third straight defeat when the Braves beat the Giants, 4-3. The Braves scored what proved to be the deciding run in the seventh on two singles, a walk and sacrifice fly by Earl Williams.

Pat Jarvis, who started for the Braves, gave up only one run on a homer by Dick Dietz before being lifted in the eighth. The Giants' other runs came off Cecil Upshaw in the ninth on a single by Bobby Bonds and homer by Willie McCovey. [The Sporting News]
