The Red Sox rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to win the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 4-3, but the Brewers snapped their five-game losing streak in the nightcap with a 5-1 victory behind the pitching of Bill Parsons. Bill Voss and Paul Ratliff homered to produce the Brewers' tallies in the lidlifter.

The Red Sox began their rally in the eighth with singles by Duane Josephson, Mike Fiore and John Kennedy, loading the bases. After one run scored on a grounder by Luis Aparicio, Ken Sanders, in relief of Skip Lockwood, passed the next two batters to force in another run before Rico Petrocelli came to the plate and singled to drive in the tying and winning tallies.
