Mickey Lolich gained his 16th victory when the Tigers defeated the Royals, 5-4, on a walk to Aurelio Rodriguez with the bases loaded in the 11th inning. While Lolich hurled the route, the Royals used seven pitchers. In the 11th, Jim Price singled for the Tigers and pinch-runner Tony Taylor was bunted to second by Ed Brinkman.

Dalton Jones batted for Lolich and drew an intentional pass. After a wild pitch advanced the runners, Dick McAuliffe also was passed intentionally. Rodriguez then drew a walk from Jim York, forcing in the Tigers' winning run. [The Sporting News]
