Bill Buckner hit the first grand-slam homer of his major league career as the Dodgers exploded for six runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Pirates, 8-5. Mudcat Grant served up the pitch to Buckner, but Dock Ellis drew the loss, ending his 13-game winning streak.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the seventh, but Ellis had two out before Tom Haller and Maury Wills each hit run-scoring singles. Grant then relieved and was greeted with Buckner's blast, the first grand slam by any Dodger batter this season. [The Sporting News]
