Thanks to a three-run homer by Dave Campbell, Clay Kirby was able to pitch the Padres to a 4-2 victory over the Reds. Kirby allowed only four hits, but a double by Bernie Carbo and homer by Tony Perez gave the Reds a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Bob Barton singled for the Padres in the fifth and was forced on a sacrifice attempt by Kirby. Enzo Hernandez walked and Campbell then clouted his homer off Ross Grimsley. [The Sporting News]
