Homers by Gates Brown and Al Kaline, each with a man on base in the ninth inning, carried the Tigers to an 8-7 victory over the Royals. Dick McAuliffe hit a pinch-single off Ted Abernathy to start the Tigers' rally.

Kevin Collins flied out, but Brown teed off for his homer. Dalton Jones walked and, after Jim York replaced Abernathy, Kaline connected for the circuit. [The Sporting News]
