The White Sox, after tying the score in the ninth inning, added another run on a throwing error by Horace Clarke to defeat the Yankees, 5-4. Ron Swoboda hit his first A. L. homer in the top half of the ninth to send the Yankees ahead, 4-3.

Mike Andrews drew a walk to start the comeback by the White Sox. Lee Richard, running for Andrews, scored on singles by Pat Kelly and Carlos May. Luis Alvarado fouled out. Ed Herrmann then grounded to Gene Michael, who threw to Clarke, forcing May at second, but when Clarke uncorked a wild throw trying for a double play, Kelly rounded third and continued home to score the winning run.
