Matty Alou drove in two runs with a triple to enable the Cardinals to defeat the Mets, 3-1, in a game stopped by rain after eight innings. Alou singled, stole second and scored the Cardinals' first run on a single by Ted Simmons in the third. After the Mets tied the score, Dal Maxvill singled in the sixth, Jose Cruz walked and Alou drove them home with his triple. [The Sporting News]
