Starting with a two-run homer by Bill Melton in the first inning, the White Sox defeated the Red Sox, 5-1. After Melton's smash, Ed Herrmann drove in another run with a double in the first and the White Sox added their final tallies in the third, one of them scored by Melton, who reached base with a single.
