A single by Jesus Alou in the 10th inning drove in the tie-breaking run and gave the Astros a 6-5 victory in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader after the Expos won the first game, 7-4. In the lidlifter, Bob Bailey hit two doubles for the Expos, each driving in a run, and Bobby Wine also accounted for two RBIs with a single and sacrifice fly, in addition to setting up another run with a sacrifice bunt. Alou and Doug Rader each homered with a man on base for the Astros.

In the nightcap, the Astros' victory was delayed when Rusty Staub hit his second homer of the game to tie the score in the ninth inning. Cesar Geronimo singled for the Astros in the 10th and Jim Wynn sacrificed. Rader doubled, but Geronimo failed to advance past third.
