. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Playing their first game under Johnny Lipon as new manager replacing Alvin Dark, the Indians turned back Vida Blue's bid for his 20th victory and beat the Athletics, 4-1. The Indians reached the A's southpaw for two runs in the second inning on singles by Chuck Hinton and Ray Fosse, a sacrifice by Ken Suarez and single by Jack Heidemann.

Kurt Bevacqua and Heidemann singled in the fourth. Alan Foster sacrificed and Ted Uhlaender added the Indians' final pair with a single. Blue, who drew his fourth defeat, went out for a pinch-hitter in the seventh after the A's scored their only run on a homer by Dick Green. [The Sporting News]
