Playing their first game under Johnny Lipon as new manager replacing Alvin Dark, the Indians turned back Vida Blue's bid for his 20th victory and beat the Athletics, 4-1. The Indians reached the A's southpaw for two runs in the second inning on singles by Chuck Hinton and Ray Fosse, a sacrifice by Ken Suarez and single by Jack Heidemann. Kurt Bevacqua and Heidemann singled in the fourth. Alan Foster sacrificed and Ted Uhlaender added the Indians' final pair with a single. Blue, who drew his fourth defeat, went out for a pinch-hitter in the seventh after the A's scored their only run on a homer by Dick Green. [The Sporting News] |
