Rick Monday, who had gone hitless in 24 trips to the plate, broke out of his slump with two homers to lead the Athletics to a 9-1 victory over the Indians. Monday put the A's ahead with a two-run smash in the sixth inning and added a solo shot in the ninth. Gene Tenace and Sal Bando also drove in three runs apiece.

Tenace's three hits included a homer. Bando rapped four hits. Chuck Dobson, after giving up a homer by Eddie Leon in the first inning, collared the Indians the rest of the way to post his 10th victory. [The Sporting News]
