After breezing to a 7-3 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, the Athletics took advantage of two unearned runs and also beat the Indians in the nightcap, 4-2. Rick Monday and Gene Tenace hit homers for the A's in the first game, Tenace's blow coming with two men on base. In the second game, with the score tied, 2-2, Monday singled and stopped at second on a two-out single by Sal Bando. When Kurt Bevacqua booted a grounder by Curt Blefary, Monday scored the go-ahead run. Angel Mangual added an extra run with a single. [The Sporting News] |
