Showing tremendous power, the Giants bombed the Pirates in both games of a doubleheader, 11-7 and 8-3. The Giants were losing the opener, 7-6, before they exploded for five runs in the eighth inning. Willie Mays drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double to send the Giants ahead and Willie McCovey followed with a three-run homer to clinch the outcome.

Dave Kingman, playing first base in place of McCovey in the nightcap, smashed two homers, each with a man on base, and Al Gallagher supplied three runs with a double and single. Willie Stargell hit two homers for the Pirates and reached the 100 mark in RBIs. [The Sporting News]
