Bobby Mitchell hit the first two homers of his major league career, connecting in each game of a doubleheader to provide the winning blows as the Brewers defeated the Senators, 4-3 and 3-2. After the Brewers picked up one run in the first inning of the opener, Jim Slaton walked in the third, Ron Theobald singled and Mitchell crashed a homer to enable the Brewers to emerge with a victory.

In the nightcap, Frank Howard put the Senators ahead, 2-1, with a homer in the fourth inning, but Johnny Briggs doubled in the sixth and Mitchell won the game with his round-tripper. [The Sporting News]
