The tremendous relief pitching of Bill Lee, who allowed only two hits in 8 1/3 innings, enabled the Red Sox to come from behind to defeat the Orioles, 7-4. The Orioles jumped on Luis Tiant for all their runs in the first inning on a homer by Boog Powell, two walks and another round-tripper by Davey Johnson.

The Red Sox chipped away with three single runs before going ahead in the seventh when Doug Griffin singled and Reggie Smith and Carl Yastrzemski followed with consecutive homers. [The Sporting News]
