Three homers, the last by Steve Garvey with two men on base in the ninth inning, powered the Dodgers to a 5-4 victory over the Giants. Dick Allen homered for the Dodgers' first run in the fifth before the Giants ganged up for four runs in the seventh. Dick Dietz homered to tie the score and other tallies followed on singles by Ken Henderson and Chris Speier, a triple by Al Gallagher and single by John Cumberland.

After Joe Ferguson homered for the Dodgers in the eighth, Willie Davis singled in the ninth to chase Cumberland. Jerry Johnson retired the next two batters and then southpaw Steve Hamilton came in to face lefthanded-hitting Willie Crawford. The move failed when Crawford singled and Garvey followed with his winning homer. [The Sporting News]
