A homer by Gene Tenace in the seventh inning provided the Athletics with their deciding run in a 2-1 victory over the Royals. Ed Kirkpatrick homered for the Royals' run in the third and the A's tied the score in the fourth when Reggie Jackson singled, took third on a single by Tommy Davis and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Sal Bando.
