After failing to hold 5-0 and 7-2 leads, the Tigers came back to defeat the Senators, 11-7. The Tigers scored five runs in the first inning and made it 7-2 when Willie Horton homered with a man on base in the fourth.

However, the Senators rallied to tie the score in the seventh on two walks, an infield out, single by Larry Biittner, another walk and a homer by Jeff Burroughs. In the Tigers' half, Mickey Stanley walked and Jim Northrup doubled to drive in the tie-breaking run. The Tigers added three runs in the eighth with the help of Horton's fourth hit of the game.
