John Vukovich, who went into the game with a .161 batting average, doubled in the ninth inning for his second hit and second RBI of the game to enable the Phillies to defeat the Braves, 3-2. Willie Montanez homered for the Phils in the second and Hank Aaron tied the score with a circuit clout in the seventh.

A double by Don Money and single by Vukovich put the Phils ahead again in their half of the seventh, but Earl Williams forged a new deadlock with a homer in the ninth. Roger Freed singled in the Phils' half and gave way to Larry Bowa, who raced home from first base on Vukovich's double. [The Sporting News]
