Vida Blue failed in a bid for his 20th victory, but the Athletics rallied to defeat the Royals, 7-5, before a Kansas City record crowd of 35,623. Blue gave up nine hits and trailed, 5-2, before going out for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning. Three of the Royals' runs came on a homer by Bob Oliver.

The A's began their comeback with a two-run homer by Rick Monday in the seventh. Then, in the ninth, after Tommy Davis, Dick Green and Bert Campaneris hit singles to tie the score, Monday doubled to drive in the winning runs. [The Sporting News]
