The Yankees jumped on Mike Cuellar for five runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Orioles, 5-0, behind the three-hit hurling of Mel Stottlemyre. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Cuellar.

Thurman Munson and Bobby Murcer started the Yankees going with singles and Roy White walked to load the bases. Danny Cater singled, driving in two runs. A single by Ron Swoboda added a third tally. Cater held third while Swoboda moved to second on a bunt by Gene Michael. Stottlemyre then iced his victory with a two-run single. [The Sporting News]
