Two Latin Americans, Jose Cruz and Matty Alou, turned their bats on Caribbean rival Juan Marichal to lead the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Giants. Cruz, who comes from Puerto Rico, smashed a homer in the first inning. Alou, a Dominican countryman of Marichal, drove in a run with a single in the fourth and another with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
