Vida Blue became the first 20-game winner in the major leagues this season when the Athletics' sensational southpaw defeated the White Sox, 1-0. Joe Horlen was the loser on a balk.

In the fifth inning, Dick Green doubled and took third on a grounder by Bert Campaneris. Facing Rick Monday, Horlen stepped on the rubber, but then stopped his pitching motion and stepped off the slab. Umpire Dave Phillips called a balk and waved Green home. [The Sporting News]
