Before needing the help of Jim Brewer to nail down the victory, Al Downing drove in the deciding run with a single in the seventh inning to enable the Dodgers to defeat the Cardinals, 6-5. Wes Parker and Willie Davis each had four hits for the Dodgers, who beat Bob Gibson for the third time this season. Downing's victory, on the other hand, was his third over the Cardinals this year.
