The Braves' pitching cousins, George Stone and Cecil Upshaw, combined to beat the Cardinals, 2-1, with the backing of four double plays. Stone, who was the winner, singled to drive in the Braves' first run in the fifth inning, tying the score at 1-1.

Marty Perez singled in the seventh and when Stone bunted, Ted Kubiak, covering first, muffed the throw by Reggie Cleveland. Perez reached third on the error and scored what proved to be the winning run when Felix Millan hit a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
