After giving up two runs on three hits in the first inning, Ken Forsch yielded only one more safety the rest of the way and pitched the Astros to a 3-2 victory over the Reds. Pete Rose and Tony Perez doubled and Johnny Bench singled for the Reds' runs.

The Astros tied the score in the third when Jesus Alou singled and Joe Morgan homered. Jack Hiatt walked in the seventh, Forsch sacrificed and Alou singled to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
