. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Effective work by two starting-relieving combinations marked the Royals' 9-2 and 3-1 victories in their sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Senators. Al Fitzmorris pitched the first five innings of the opener, allowing five hits. Jim York yielded only one hit in the last four frames. Gail Hopkins hit a three-run homer in the first to start the Royals on the way to victory.

In the nightcap, Mike Hedlund, who started, and Ted Abernathy, who finished, each gave up only two hits. The Royals broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh when Cookie Rojas singled, stole second and crossed the plate on a single by Lou Piniella. [The Sporting News]
