Juan Marichal, helping his own cause with a double, pitched the Giants to a 1-0 victory over the Expos in a duel with Bill Stoneman. Al Gallagher singled with one out in the ninth inning and stopped at third on Marichal's double.

After a pass to Bobby Bonds, the Expos set up a five-man infield, but Tito Fuentes hit a ground single to right to score pinch-runner Frank Duffy. Marichal, who yielded only two hits, ended a personal four-game losing streak with his first victory since June 23. [The Sporting News]
