. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Playing separate-admission, day-night games, the Red Sox attracted a total of 54,206 paid, but disappointed the turnouts by losing to the Athletics, 6-5 and 7-5. Tommy Davis and Dick Green homered for the A's in the sunshine contest, while the Red Sox had a round-tripper by Joe Lahoud. With the score tied, 5-5, Reggie Jackson walked for the A's in the ninth inning and was forced by Davis. Sal Bando walked and Gene Tenace then singled to drive in Davis with the winning run.

The A's stepped up their slugging in the night game with homers by Bando, Jackson and Dave Duncan. Mike Fiore and Reggie Smith connected for the Red Sox. Mudcat Grant, newly reacquired from the Pirates, saved the game for the A's, pitching the last 3 1/3 innings in relief of Blue Moon Odom and allowing only three hits and one run.
