Mickey Lolich equaled his previous season's high in victories, 19 in 1969, when the Tigers' lefthander defeated the Brewers, 4-3. Lolich fell behind, 2-0, in the fourth inning on a pass to Tommy Harper, a sacrifice, a double by Johnny Briggs and single by Jose Cardenal.

The Tigers pulled even in the fifth and went ahead with two more runs in the eighth on a single by Jim Northrup, triple by Bill Freehan and single by Aurelio Rodriguez.
