. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Royals extended their winning streak to five games with a 2-0 victory in the opener of a twi-night doubleheader before their string was snapped by the Senators in the nightcap, 2-1. Ken Wright, with last-out help from Tom Burgmeier, was the Royals' winner in the lidlifter. The Royals scored on a walk and singles by Freddie Patek and Cookie Rojas in the third inning and again on a triple by Rojas and single by Amos Otis in the sixth.

Rookie Pete Broberg, with help from Paul Lindblad and Casey Cox, was the Senators' winner in the second game. The Nats ended a string of 24 scoreless innings by counting their runs in the third on a walk to Broberg and singles by Lenny Randle, Jeff Burroughs and Dick Billings. The Royals evaded a shutout with an unearned run in the sixth. When Broberg loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, Lindblad came in and retired Chuck Harrison on a foul. Cox then took over and induced Paul Schaal to ground into a forceout. [The Sporting News]
