Rick Wise gained his third straight victory and 12th of the season when the Phillies defeated the Padres, 5-2. With Ollie Brown hitting a homer, the Padres held a 2-1 lead before the Phils went ahead in the sixth inning.

Larry Bowa beat out an infield hit and scored on a double by Willie Montanez and an error by Brown on the play. The Phillies then loaded the bases and picked up the leading run on a pass to Mike Ryan. Deron Johnson iced the victory with a two-run homer in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
