Mike Thompson, Senators' rookie righthander, gained his first major league victory when Jeff Burroughs, rookie outfielder, smashed a homer to beat the Angels, 2-0. Burroughs' belt off Clyde Wright in the seventh inning came after Frank Howard was safe on an error.

Until Burroughs connected, Wright had allowed only one hit. Thompson ran into trouble in the ninth and yielded to Paul Lindblad, who recorded the final out of the game. [The Sporting News]
