The four-hit pitching of Ross Grimsley and homers by Hal McRae and Johnny Bench featured the Reds' 5-1 victory over the Cubs. McRae rapped his round-tripper in the first inning.

After the Reds picked up unearned runs in the third and fourth, Bench hit his homer in the sixth. Singles by Grimsley and Pete Rose around a passed ball wrapped up the scoring against Juan Pizarro in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
