With Paul Schaal driving in all their runs, the Royals gained a 5-1 victory to extend the losing streak of the Red Sox to seven games. It also was the ninth straight time that the Royals had defeated the Red Sox this season. Schaal tripled behind a walk to Ed Kirkpatrick in the fourth inning, homered with two men on base in the sixth and accounted for his fifth RBI of the game with a single in the eighth.
