Homers by Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays provided the batting support for Juan Marichal, who yielded only five hits and pitched the Giants to a 6-1 victory over the Mets. Bonds belted his homer after a pass to Mays in the first inning.

The Giants broke the tight game apart with four runs in the seventh. After one run scored on singles by Al Gallagher, Ken Henderson and Tito Fuentes, Mays hit his first homer since July 18. [The Sporting News]
