Turning against his former teammates, Matty Alou homered with two men on base in the eighth inning to cap a five-run rally as the Cardinals completed the sweep of a four-game series by defeating the Pirates, 6-4. Ted Simmons and Joe Hague singled with one out to start the Cards' comeback, kayoing Bruce Kison. After Bob Miller relieved, Ted Kubiak singled to load the bases.

With two out, pinch-hitter Jerry McNertney singled, driving in two runs, and Alou followed with his winning homer. Hague also had a homer in the game for the Cardinals, while Willie Stargell smashed two for the Pirates. [The Sporting News]
