. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Shaking the Pirates out of their slump, Willie Stargell and Vic Davalillo swung big bats to lead the way to an 8-3 victory over the Astros. Stargell smashed four hits and drove in four runs, raising his RBI total to a career season high of 108. Davalillo, playing in place of Roberto Clemente, contributed two triples and a double to the Pirates' attack and batted in two runs. Bob Robertson accounted for the other RBIs with a pair of sacrifice flies.

Dock Ellis, who pitched seven innings before his elbow tightened, gained his 17th victory. Dave Giusti finished. Doug Rader hit a homer for the Astros. [The Sporting News]
