Pinch-hitter Zoilo Versalles, swinging at the first pitch thrown to him by Ray Newman, connected for a homer in the ninth inning to give the Braves a 5-4 victory over the Cubs. The Braves also had a homer earlier in the game by Earl Williams, while Ron Santo hit for the circuit with two men on base for the Cubs.
