The Red Sox, who scored one unearned run but were held hitless by Clyde Wright for the first six innings, erupted against the lefthander in the seventh to defeat the Angels, 4-3. Reggie Smith singled for the first Red Sox hit and, when Rico Petrocelli grounded to Bruce Christiansen, Sandy Alomar dropped the throw to second and both runners were safe.

George Scott beat out a bunt to load the bases and Phil Gagliano, playing left field in place of Carl Yastrzemski, doubled, driving in two runs to tie the score at 3-3. Luis Aparicio then batted for Jim Lonborg and beat out an infield hit, sending the deciding run across the plate. [The Sporting News]
