A bases-loaded single by Ken McMullen with two out in the 13th inning scored Sandy Alomar and gave the Angels a 2-1 victory over the Yankees. A single by Jerry Kenney and double by Bobby Murcer produced the Yankees' run in the first, but they collected only four more hits over the balance of the game.

The Angels tied the score in the second. Jim Fregosi singled, took third on a single by Jim Spencer and crossed the plate on McMullen's groundout. A succession of goose eggs thereafter finally ended in the 13th. Alomar singled, Mickey Rivers sacrificed and Fregosi drew an intentional walk with two away.
