Lou Piniella batted in three runs with a single and double as the Royals concentrated their attack in the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the Senators, 8-5. The Royals snapped a five-game losing streak, while the Senators were stopped on their string of four victories.

Piniella's single drove in two of the Royals' five runs in the fifth and his double accounted for one of three tallies in the sixth. Bob Oliver had a run-scoring single in each stanza. [The Sporting News]
