A slip by Glenn Beckert that prevented a play at the plate enabled the Astros to score the deciding run in the eighth inning to defeat the Cubs, 4-3. With one out, Doug Rader doubled and stopped at third on a single by Jack Hiatt. Roger Metzger grounded to Beckert, who slipped and had to go to first base for the putout as Rader scored to break the 3-3 tie.
