Snapping their string of 11 straight losses in Detroit going back to the 1970 season, the Brewers defeated the Tigers, 2-1. The Brewers were held to five hits, but scored once without the benefit of a safety in the first inning when Ron Theobald walked, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and counted on a sacrifice fly by Jose Cardenal. Gates Brown provided the Tigers' tally with a homer in the fourth.

The Brewers posted the deciding run in the sixth. Tommy Harper doubled and stopped at third on a single by Theobald. When Cardenal grounded to Dick McAuliffe, Harper bluffed an attempt to score. McAuliffe threw home, but Harper returned to third and Cardenal was safe at first. Dave May then forced Cardenal as Harper scored. [The Sporting News]
