Led by Cleon Jones, who collected three hits including a key triple, the Mets defeated the Padres, 4-2. Jones' triple, following a walk to Wayne Garrett, broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning and two more runs followed on singles by Art Shamsky, Ken Boswell and Ed Kranepool.
