Les Cain struck out 13, his career high for a major league game, and gained his first victory since June 17 when the Tigers defeated the Twins, 4-2. Dick McAuliffe made Cain's triumph possible by hitting a homer with two men on base in the third inning. McAuliffe also doubled and scored on a single by Gates Brown in the fifth.
