Helping himself to victory, Tom Burgmeier doubled in the 13th inning and scored the winning run for the Royals, who defeated the Red Sox, 5-4, for their 10th straight triumph over the baffled Bosox this season. After reaching second on his two-bagger, Burgmeier advanced to third when Freddie Patek bunted safely.
